Subunits:
  • Microbial Culture
  • Susceptibility Testing
  • Microbial Identification
Mission:

The Microbiology Unit at Kano Independent Research Centre Trust (KIRCT) is dedicated to understanding the complex interactions between microorganisms and their hosts, with a focus on improving human health and disease prevention. Our mission is to apply microbiological research to address the pressing health challenges facing Nigeria, particularly in the areas of infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance.

Objectives:

1. To conduct research in microbiology, focusing on the isolation, identification, and characterization of microorganisms that cause disease in Nigeria.

2. To develop and implement diagnostic tools and therapeutic strategies for the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases.

3. To investigate the role of microorganisms in disease pathogenesis and to identify new targets for antimicrobial therapy.

4. To train and mentor local researchers, clinicians, and students in microbiology research and its applications.

5. To collaborate with national and international organizations to advance microbiology research and translation in Nigeria.
