The 100-bed space facility was constructed and donated by multinational pharmaceutical company, Pfizer, in conjunction with the Kano State Government to serve as both a diagnostic centre for the treatment and detection of infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV/ AIDS, polio, cerebro spinal meningitis, cholera, diarrhoea among others

Built on 2.9 hectares out of a total land area of 9.6 hectares, the DDCC is expected to function as both a medical facility and a research and training centre for doctors and other healthcare professionals in Kano and neighbouring states. It also has facilities to quarantine patients during disease outbreaks which would assist medical personnel in tracking individual strains of causative agents so as to determine the type of medication required.
